Manchester City v Bolton Wanderers

SELECTION HEADACHE FOR KEEGAN
Manchester City boss Kevin Keegan is without seven first-team players for Monday night's visit of Bolton Wanderers.
Shaun Wright-Phillips is the latest casualty, the England international being forced to undergo knee surgery after suffering an injury at Norwich City last Monday.
Wright-Phillips joins suspended duo Joey Barton and Stephen Jordan on the sidelines, as well as injury victims Nedum Onuoha and Ben Thatcher (both hamstring) plus Trevor Sinclair and Sun Jihai (both knee).
"Shaun has arguably been our best player for the last three seasons, so to lose him is a big blow,'' said Keegan.
"There is no question he needs the operation but while we have been told to expect a six-to-eight week recovery, with Shaun we could be looking at five or six because he is such a quick healer and won't take much getting fit.''
In Wright-Phillips' absence, Irish Under-21 international Willo Flood is vying with Steve McManaman for a recall, while David Sommeil looks set to make his first Barclays Premiership start of the season and Claudio Reyna is virtually certain to return from a long-term groin problem.
Keegan, meanwhile, has revealed he will not quit City before the end of his contract in 2006 - but admitted he would walk away if the Blues board asked him to.
Although he once again stated there was no chance of him staying on beyond the remaining 15 months of his current deal, Keegan added that the only reason he would not still be in the City hot-seat before the start of next season was if chairman John Wardle decided it was not in the club's best interests.
"At the moment, I am being criticised for being too honest,'' the former England boss said.
"If I had not said I was going at the end of last season, people would be coming up to me now and saying 'you only have just over a year on your contract, what are you going to do?'
"Had it been now when I said I didn't want a new contract, that would have been far worse for Manchester City.
"The club have already had one year, and have another one if they need it, to plan for the future. I think that is the right way to do it.
"I would like to see through the full five years but if my chairman comes to me tomorrow, next week or next month and says we don't want you to see the last year out, there will be no problem with me. I will shake his hand, wish him all the luck in the world and be gone.''
But Bolton boss Sam Allardyce believes Keegan could yet be persuaded to stay on.
Allardyce said: "I don't think that Kevin is doing anything other than he should do at the moment and that's seeing his contract out.
"He could have a fantastic season next year and the fans will be singing for him and the directors will be throwing him another two or three-year contract.
"I am not so sure he would say no.''
But while Keegan accepts Allardyce's sentiments, he insists May 2006 will mark the end of his managerial career.
"Sam has said some nice things but he doesn't know me,'' said Keegan.
"If you asked Terry McDermott and asked him whether I will change my mind, you would get a totally different answer.
"We are all different, we all have our reasons. I have mine and I laid them down nearly a year ago now.
"I am clear in my mind what is right for me and I think it is right for Manchester City as well. I will definitely go at the end of next season if not before.''
Bolton defender Nicky Hunt could face City on Monday despite dislocating his shoulder last weekend in the defeat by Newcastle United.
Hunt, who had an operation on the shoulder in the summer, has made a rapid recovery and Allardyce said: "He may have the chance of being selected.''
Midfielder Kevin Nolan returns to the squad after suspension but striker El-Hadji Diouf remains doubtful with an ankle injury.
Allardyce is expecting a tough match on Monday, and added: "It doesn't matter whether City are playing good, bad or indifferent, we are usually rubbish against them.
"We really have to turn it around this time and that starts by not conceding a goal.''
